Vein Disorders

Veins of the lower extremities are responsible for carrying blood to deep veins and back to the heart. Diseased veins impede the flow of blood, resulting in swelling and skin changes. Severe conditions can lead to ulcerations and pain. Treatment relieves painful symptoms and treats the veins on a cosmetic level. The following are some of the vein diseases we address:
Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins
A vein's function is to direct blood back to the heart using one-way valves to keep blood flowing properly. When these valves fail, blood leaks backwards. this is called venous insufficiency and can result in varicose veins, typically discolored, lumpy areas beneath the skin.

Spider Veins
Generally found on the thighs, back of the knee or around the ankle, spider veins are small red or blue blood vessels. They can be short lines or in a web-like pattern. Spider Veins may occur with varicose veins and can include dull throbbing or a burning feeling, often relieved with treatment.

  Phlebitis
Swelling, redness, warmth, tenderness or hardening of a vein are symptoms of phlebitis (or thrombophlebitis) - a condition resulting from a blood clot near a venous valve. Most often minor cases simply go away in a few weeks, but more serious cases require immediate treatment.

Leg Ulcers
Although the exact cause is not certain, leg ulcers are wounds thought to occur due to improper functioning of venous valves, usually in the legs. Venous ulcers develop mostly on the inner part of the leg, below the knee, and range from painless to very painful - especially if infected.
