Varicose Vein Laser Treatment with Endovenous Laser Ablation

Resolve problem veins with ease, great results and minimal downtime.

In the past, varicose veins were most commonly treated using a surgical technique to strip the vein out of the leg. It required general anesthesia and involved long recovery times, scarring, high rates of complication and early recurrences. New varicose vein and vascular disease treatment options have become available which are minimally invasive, fast, convenient and requires little or no downtime.

Vein Treatment from Inside the Vein

State-of-the-art treatment from inside the vein. At Southern Illinois Vein Center, experienced and highly credentialed vein specialist James V. Robelen, MD, FACS, uses state-of-the-art endovenous radiofrequency ablation RFA (also known as endovenous laser ablation) to close down main superficial varicose veins.

Minimally Invasive Vein Treatment Option

A minimally invasive technique, endovenous radiofrequency ablation involves threading a tiny catheter into the vein through a tiny incision. A thermal couple on the end of the catheter controls heat, which is converted from energy. This harms the inner wall of the vein and causes it to begin shutting down. Over time, the body naturally absorbs the closed vein and reroutes blood flow through veins deeper in the leg. Because the laser treats from inside (endo) the vein (venous), endovenous radiofrequency ablation has a low rate of complication, leads to less discomfort (there are no pain fibers in veins) and scarring, and can be performed as an in-office procedure.

Multifaceted Vascular Treatment Approach

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation treats larger veins that are the main source of vein reflux (backflow) in superficial veins, but it doesn’t treat all the branches and tributary veins. So the vein specialist will generally treat one leg per day using RFA followed by several sessions of ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy to treat the tributary veins and ensure the most complete results.
